In sports, goals are the physical objects that serve as the sought after destinations needed for achieving points in a game or event. Goals are used to calculate game scores by separating a winning and losing team and awarding players and athletes points in individual sports or team sports. The results of goal statistics can be used by an athlete to gauge their own athletic performance and calculate the percentage of success versus attempts to get a ball into a goal in ball sports. Sharing terminology with a person's aims and ambitions, goals in sports can also be symbolic or ephemeral as sports goals can be determined in every competitive game, including those of video games and virtual reality.

Football goals (soccer goals) are located at the center of each opposing goal line of a football pitch and are the boundaries for scoring points (goals) in the game of football. Goals are constructed from wood, metal or any other approved material, painted white, and are typically capped with nets for catching the ball after a goal.

The goal is made of two vertical goal posts at 12’ (3.66 m) from center (24’ | 7.32 m total) and connected by a horizontal crossbar 8’ (2.44 m) high.

Beer Pong Racks & Re-Racks
Diagram drawing of all the possible Beer Pong Racks and Reracks available from 10 cups down to 1 cup formations

Beer pong racks, and subsequent re-racks, refer to the organization and formation of the beer pong cups on the table. Starting out with cups organized in triangular racks of 6 or 10 cups on both sides of the beer pong table, players must drink and remove any cups that have been successfully made by the opposing team. Depending on the rules established for the game, both teams are allowed one or two re-racks at the start of their turn. Re-racks are an opportunity to reorganize the remaining cups into a shape that is more desirable and/or an easier target for the team shooting. Re-rack rules in beer pong often vary, so it is always best to ask about the re-rack rules before starting a game.

Basketball Hoop & Backboard

In basketball, the basket is comprised of a hoop (net) attached to a flat backboard (vertical glass board). Regulation basketball hoops are suspended 10’ | 3.05 m from the playing surface and have a standard rim diameter of 18” | 46 cm. The vertical backboard surface is made of plexiglass or tempered glass to prevent shattering and is sized at 42” x 72” | 110 x 183 cm. Basketball rims are manufactured from high tensile carbon steel to provide the ball with the correct amount of bounce while also having give for players that can dunk.

Beer Pong Cups

Beer pong cups are common plastic party cups used for playing the party game of beer pong. Official regulated by the rules of beer pong as being 16 oz cups in size (though 18 oz cups are also often used), red plastic party cups, specifically red SOLO cups, are iconically known to be the standard cups used for playing the beer pong. Beer pong games start with both teams have their beer pong cups arranged in triangular racks of either 10 or 6 cups. 16 oz beer pong cups have a top diameter of 3 5/8” (82 mm), a height of 4 5/8” (117 mm), and a base width of 2 1/4” (57 mm).

With beer pong being played with a typical 1.57” (40 mm) ping pong ball, the beer pong ball is approximately 23% of the total open area at the top of the beer pong cup.

Basketball Rims & Nets
Illustration of a basketball player (James Harden) dunking on a regulation Basketball Rim with dimensions

Basketball rims, or hoops, are orange painted goals attached to the backboard and used for scoring points in a game of basketball. Basketball rims today are designed as breakaway rims comprised of a hinge and spring that allow the rim to bend when a player dunks without shattering the backboard. The rim itself is made of a 5/8” | 1.6 cm steel diameter steel rod that is formed into a ring with an inner diameter of 18” | 45.72 cm. Basketball nets are hung from the bottom of the rim with lengths between 15”-18” | 38.1-45.7 cm. Basketball rims are mounted 10’ | 3.05 m from the court floor.
