Sporting Group

The Sporting Group is the dog breed group that includes active and alert sporting breeds that were initially bred to work with hunters to locate and retrieve prey. The Sporting Group is subdivided into 4 different groups including spaniels, pointers, retrievers, and setters. Dog breeds within the Sporting Group are known for their instincts in both water and wood environments. Sporting Group Dogs require constant physical exercise and mental stimulation. Other characteristics of Sporting Group dogs include intelligence, high energy, and easy trainability. Dog Breeds within the Sporting Group include the English Springer Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, and Golden Retriever.
