Description
Description

Ai Weiwei is a world-famous artist and political activist. He is known for his largescale conceptual art works, which often comment on contemporary politics and human rights issues. In 2013, he was commissioned to make a work for the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall. He covered the 1000 square meter floor with 100 million porcelain sunflower seeds, a comment on the relationship between Chinese politics and Chinese family life. He has been openly critical of the Chinese government, resulting in his arrest and detainment in 2011.  He was able to leave China in 2015, and now lives with his family in Cambridge, UK.
