Description
Description

The potted Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae) is an upright tropical foliage plant admired for its sculptural presence and exotic blooms that bring a touch of the tropics indoors or into patios and terraces. Its foliage consists of broad, leathery, banana-like leaves that grow upright in layered fans, creating a strong architectural form. From this lush greenery emerge extraordinary flowers shaped like a bird’s head in flight, with orange and blue petals projecting from a green bract edged with red or purple.

Also called crane flower, this species hails from South Africa, where it grows in sunny grasslands and river valleys. In potted form, it adapts well to containers, allowing its dramatic qualities to be appreciated in smaller spaces. A symbol of paradise, beauty, and resilience, the Bird of Paradise is pollinated in its native environment by sunbirds, which perch on its flowers and release pollen in a uniquely specialized interaction.
