Description
Description

Blue Fescue (Festuca glauca) is a compact, clump-forming ornamental grass known for its striking blue-gray foliage and tidy, rounded shape. Also referred to as Glaucous Fescue, it belongs to the Poaceae family and is native to parts of Europe, particularly dry, rocky slopes and alpine meadows. Its fine, needle-like leaves form dense tufts that maintain their color throughout the year in mild climates, making it a popular choice for texture and color contrast in garden compositions.

Blue Fescue typically grows in well-drained, open habitats and thrives in full sun, where its silvery hue is most vibrant. In summer, it sends up slender flower stalks with subtle, wheat-colored panicles that rise above the foliage and add vertical interest.

Favored in modern, drought-tolerant, and rock garden designs, Festuca glauca is often used for edging, mass plantings, or as an accent plant. Its sculptural form and unusual coloring distinguish it among ornamental grasses.
