Bong Joon-ho is a South Korean filmmaker known for making films with black humor and sudden tone shifts focused on social themes. Bong Joon-ho first became known to audiences with his debut film, Barking Dogs Never Bite. Bong Joon-ho has four films all within the highest-grossing films in South Korea, including his most recent film Parasite. Parasite is the first South Korean film to have been nominated for Academy Awards and is the first film not in English to win Best Picture (Joon-ho also won for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay). Joon-ho was included on Time’s list of 100 Most Influential People in 2020.
