Description

Michelangelo’s David is a masterpiece Renaissance sculpture featuring a depiction of the Biblical figure, David. The sculpture was created by Michelangelo between 1501 and 1504 and commissioned by Opera del Duomo. Michelangelo’s David was first created to be placed on the roofline of the Florence Cathedral, but due to its weight, it was impossible to execute and was placed at the front of the Palazzo della Signoria. Michelangelo’s David has been studied throughout history and is regarded as a symbol of strength and youthful beauty. Michelangelo’s David is created from marble and is currently on display at Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, Italy.
