Description
Description

The Fried Egg jellyfish, known as Cotylorhiza tuberculata, is a jelly with a smooth, translucent white top with an elevated yellow bell in its center. It is the white top with yellow center that gives the Fried Egg jellyfish its name, as it looks like a fried egg floating through the water. The Fried Egg jelly lives in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Aegean Seas and has a lifespan of only six months, from summer to winter. Its stingers are relatively mild, so sometimes the Fried Egg jellyfish provides shelter for smaller creatures or even has crabs that ride on its bell. The Fried Egg jelly usually just drifts in the water, but it is actually a very competent swimmer.
