Michael Moore is an American filmmaker known for making documentaries that are highly critical of globalization, capitalism, and politicians. Moore was born in Flint, Michigan and started his career in journalism working for the college newspaper before dropping out. After Moore dropped out, he made his first documentary in 1989 (Roger & Me), before making Bowling for Columbine, which was his breakthrough film and won an Oscar. After the success of Bowling for Columbine, which examined gun culture in America, Moore made Fahrenheit 9/11, the highest-grossing documentary ever produced. Moore has earned himself a reputation for being a risktaker and taking on controversial subjects through his films.
