Minerva McGonagall is the Professor of Transfiguration at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Deputy Headmistress, and the head of Gryffindor House. Harry first comes across her when he arrives at the school for the first time when she leads them into the Great Hall to commence the Sorting. She is generally considered a stern, but fair teacher. She is protective of Harry from afar but doesn’t play favorites. She later succeeds Albus Dumbledore as the Headmistress of Hogwarts School. She is an Animagus and can turn herself into a cat at will.
