Description
Description

Octopus Agave (Agave vilmoriniana) is a striking and unusually graceful species of agave known for its twisting, tentacle-like leaves that arch and curl outward from the center, resembling the limbs of an octopus. Its smooth, spineless, gray-green leaves form an elegant, fountain-shaped rosette that gives it a softer appearance compared to many other agaves.

Native to the rocky slopes of western Mexico, particularly in the states of Jalisco and Sinaloa, this species thrives in arid, well-drained environments. It is sometimes referred to as “Fountain Agave” due to its flowing silhouette. One of its distinctive traits is the production of a towering flower stalk in its final years, reaching up to 10 feet high and bearing clusters of yellow-green blooms. After flowering, the main plant dies, but it often produces numerous bulbils on the flower stalk for propagation. Its unique shape makes it a favorite for sculptural, desert-inspired landscapes.
