Description
Description

Oscar Niemeyer is considered a leading architect of the 20th century. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Niemeyer rose to international recognition during the 1940s and 1950s after his collaboration with Le Corbusier on the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. His architectural portfolio includes the Edifício Copan in downtown São Paolo, the cathedral of Brasilia, and the Palácio de Planalto – the official office of the Brazilian President. Niemeyer’s involvement in leftwing politics led him to exile – he set up an office in Paris but later returned to Brazil in 1986.
