Description

Perseus with the Head of Medusa is a sculpture that represents the story of Perseus and Andromeda. The sculpture was created by Benvenuto Cellini between 1545 and 1554. Perseus with the Head of Medusa is the embodiment of the mythological story of Perseus beheading Medusa. Perseus is shown naked except for his sash and winged sandals and stands atop the body of Medusa with his arms raised and holding her head. This sculpture integrates its base into an essential part of the sculpture. Perseus with the Head of Medusa is crafted from bronze and is located in Florence, Italy at the Piazza della Signoria.
