Description
Description

Red frangipani (Plumeria rubra) in a large form develops as a substantial, branching woody perennial with thick, smooth, grayish stems that fork repeatedly into a broad, sculptural canopy. The branches are succulent and slightly swollen at the joints, supporting elongated, leathery leaves that cluster near the tips. During active growth, clusters of fragrant, vividly colored flowers emerge at the ends of branches, creating concentrated displays.

Also known as red plumeria or temple tree, Plumeria rubra is native to tropical regions of Central America and has been widely naturalized in warm climates worldwide. The species is adapted to seasonal drought through water-storing tissues in its stems. A notable biological trait is its milky latex sap, characteristic of the Apocynaceae family. In its large form, Plumeria rubra emphasizes bold branching architecture and dramatic floral presentation within tropical and subtropical landscapes.
