Smooth Agave (Agave desmettiana) is a medium-sized succulent admired for its elegant, symmetrical rosette of arching, lance-shaped leaves. Unlike many of its spiny relatives, this agave features relatively smooth margins with only occasional soft terminal spines, giving it a softer, more refined appearance—hence the name "Smooth Agave." The glossy green to blue-green leaves curve outward gracefully, forming a vase-like structure.

Native to Mexico, it thrives in dry, subtropical climates and is often found in rocky slopes or cultivated in ornamental gardens around the world. It is sometimes called “Dwarf Century Plant,” although it matures more quickly than its larger cousins. A notable characteristic is its monocarpic lifecycle—after several years, it sends up a tall flowering stalk with clusters of yellow blossoms and then dies, leaving behind numerous offshoots or pups. Its compact size, rapid growth, and graceful form make it especially popular in modern and Mediterranean-style landscapes.
