Ian Fleming created the character of Vesper Lynd for his 1953 book, Casino Royale. She appears in the 2005 Bond film of the same name and is played by actress Eva Green. In the film, she works as a fictional HM Treasury liaison officer for MI5. She and Bond grow close during their investigation of criminal boss, Le Chiffre. They fall deeply in love and plan to leave the secret service in order to be together. However, she is revealed to be a double agent, working for Le Chiffre and embroiled in a criminal network. It is later revealed she has been blackmailed, and in order to save Bond, she commits herself to dying
