Consoles | Sideboards

Sideboards, also known as buffets, were often made up of wood and glass, and are commonly used in dining rooms and prep rooms for serving food. Originating from Western Europe, sideboards consist of drawers and cabinets for storing dishes and other dining accessories. Current designs have often put storage and aesthetic ahead of the food serving/prepping purpose of sideboards.
A sideboard is a piece of furniture usually is made up of a set of cabinets or drawers and short legs. It is also known as a buffet, although the two can be considered different based on leg height. It is typically located in the dining room where food can be placed and served on its surface.
A sideboard can not only be used as a surface to serve food, but act as a blank space to display seasonal decorations or highlight curated art pieces. A collection of books, a bouquet of flowers, a pair of lamps, or a simple bowl of fruit are a few more ideas of items that can be placed on top of a sideboard to elevate a space in accordance with the homeowner’s aesthetic.
A sideboard is mainly used for storage and displaying dishes, food, or decor. Ultimately, the items placed on top of the surface of the sideboard can be interchangeable depending on the occasion.
