Description
Description

African Daisy (Osteospermum spinosum) is a perennial flowering plant valued for its daisy-like blooms and distinctive foliage. The flowers feature a ring of radiating petals in shades of white to pale lilac, surrounding a central disk that often deepens to blue or purple, creating a striking contrast. Its leaves are small, leathery, and spiny-edged—an unusual trait that offers both texture and natural protection. Native to South Africa, it is found in open, sunny habitats such as coastal slopes, scrublands, and rocky grasslands.

Also known as spiny-leaved African daisy, it is adapted to withstand dry, exposed conditions while producing vibrant seasonal color. Blooming mainly in spring and early summer, it attracts pollinators including bees and butterflies. Its combination of long-lasting flowers, resilient growth habit, and distinctive foliage makes Osteospermum spinosum a unique choice for perennial borders, rock gardens, and naturalized landscapes in regions with warm, sunny climates.
