Alberto Tomba is an Italian former World Cup Alpine ski racer who is known for dominating the slalom and giant slalom disciplines in the late 1980s and 1990s. He started skiing at the age of 3 and began racing when he was 7. He was nicknamed ‘Tomba la Bomba’ that translates to ‘Tomba the Bomb’. Throughout his career Alberto Tomba won 3 Olympic gold medals, 2 World Championships, and 9 World Cup season titles. He became the second male skier ever to win 50 World Cup races. Alberto Tomba retired in March of 1998 at the age of 31.
