The Azawakh is a dog from West Africa that was used as a sighthound. However, unlike other sighthounds, they are primarily used as protectors on their native land. They are similar in appearance to Middle Eastern and South Indian sight hounds. In appearance the Azawakh has a wide color variation. The have a short, flat back, long legs, and almond eyes; they are thin and move with a feline gait. With a range of temperaments, the Azawakh can be gentle and affectionate lap dogs or fierce and high energy with a high hunting instinct.
