Breakdancing | Breaking - Male Dancers

Elevation drawings of male breakdancers performing various breaking moves

Breakdancing is a media constructed term to refer to b-boying or breaking, which is a form of street dancing invented in the United States by Black and Puerto Rican youth in the 1970s. Originally coined as b-boying, the term breakdancing was created by the media after the dance form began to gain popularity. Breaking has a wide range of variety, but typically consists of four different moves: toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes. B-boys used to have a style defined by their city, but with the spread of the internet and YouTube videos being watched in the scene individual styles have lost definition.
