Description

Chinese Astilbe (Astilbe rubra) is a perennial shade flower admired for its bold, feathery plumes of deep pink to red blossoms that rise above lush, fern-like foliage. The finely divided, serrated leaves form dense, mounded clumps that provide textural interest even when the plant is not in bloom. Native to moist woodlands and mountain slopes of East Asia, particularly China, it thrives in cool, shaded environments where other flowering plants may struggle.

Sometimes simply called red astilbe, it is celebrated for its vibrant color, which enlivens shaded borders, woodland gardens, and streamside plantings. Blooming in summer, its airy flower spikes attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, while its foliage offers lasting ornamental value throughout the growing season. Known for blending graceful form with strong visual impact, Chinese Astilbe is a favorite for adding vertical emphasis, seasonal color, and a touch of elegance to low-light landscapes.
