Description
Description

Common Bugle (Ajuga reptans) is a low-growing herbaceous perennial prized as a spreading groundcover that carpets the soil with dense foliage and vibrant flowers. Its leaves, which may range from glossy green to bronzed or variegated tones, form a mat that suppresses weeds and provides year-round texture. In spring to early summer, upright spikes of small, tubular blue to violet flowers rise above the foliage, creating a striking contrast and attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Native to Europe, Ajuga reptans naturally inhabits meadows, woodland clearings, and grassy slopes, where its creeping stolons allow it to spread quickly and stabilize soil. Also known as bugleweed or carpet bugle, it has been appreciated for both its ornamental qualities and its role in traditional herbal practices. Valued for its resilience, adaptability, and ability to unify plantings, Common Bugle adds color, structure, and ecological benefit to shaded borders, lawns, and naturalized groundcover schemes.
