Description
Description

Daylily (Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus) is a perennial flowering plant celebrated for its bright, trumpet-shaped blooms and graceful, arching foliage. Each flower, typically in shades of golden yellow, features six petals that open for a single day—hence the common name—while the plant continuously produces new buds to extend the display. The long, strap-like green leaves grow in dense clumps, providing a lush backdrop to the floral stems.

Native to parts of Eurasia, including central and eastern Europe and parts of Asia, it thrives in meadows, forest edges, and sunny slopes. Also known as lemon daylily or yellow daylily, it is fragrant, especially in the evening, and attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Beyond its ornamental beauty, it has been valued historically for edible flower buds in certain culinary traditions. With its combination of vibrant color, seasonal abundance, and adaptability, the daylily remains a timeless choice for perennial gardens and naturalized plantings.
