Description
Description

Hoary Alyssum (Single) (Berteroa incana) is a slender, upright flowering plant characterized by its narrow, gray-green leaves and small white, four-petaled blooms. Covered in fine, silvery hairs, the plant has a soft, hoary texture that gives it a frosted appearance. Also called False Alyssum or Hoary Berteroa, this species is native to Eurasia but is now recognized as an invasive weed across much of North America.

Found in dry, disturbed sites such as roadsides, pastures, and gravelly soils, a single Hoary Alyssum can act as a pioneer plant, establishing quickly in open ground. Its flowering stem often branches near the top, producing a spray of small white blossoms that attract pollinators. Though delicate in appearance, it is hardy and persistent, spreading by seed and thriving in nutrient-poor environments. Even as a lone plant, it signals the early stages of colonization and poses a threat to native species and grazing animals.
