He rose to fame as part of the rockabilly scene in the 1950s and became known for his deep rich baritone voice, the sombre tone of many of his songs, and the distinctive backing sound of his backing band, named the Tennessee Three. Some of his most famous songs include ‘Walk The Line’, ‘Get Rhythm’ and ‘Man in Black’. He has sold over 90 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He married twice, first to Vivian Roberto, and later to June Carter, who he collaborated with musically for many years. He died in Nashville, in 2003.
