He learned to ride by watching his father who was also a horse jockey and in 1966 became sponsored by Fred. W. Hooper to go to the United States and ride under contract. In 1968, he became the second rider in the history of Hollywood Park to win six races on a single card. Laffit Pincay Jr. retired in April of 2003.
