Description
Description

Mountain ebony (Bauhinia variegata) is a tropical deciduous flowering tree distinguished by its orchid-like blossoms, broad bilobed leaves, and irregular spreading canopy. The foliage is uniquely shaped with a central division that gives each leaf a butterfly-like appearance. During flowering periods, large pink, purple, or white blossoms emerge densely along the branches, often before full foliage development.

Native to South and Southeast Asia, Bauhinia variegata naturally inhabits subtropical forests and monsoon-influenced landscapes. The species is biologically notable for rapid seasonal flowering and adaptation to warm climates with alternating wet and dry conditions. In mature form, the tree emphasizes dramatic floral display, unusual leaf geometry, and open tropical branching structure, creating one of the most visually expressive flowering canopies among subtropical ornamental trees.
