Apart from its corkscrew curls and mid-size, the Pumi also has expressive ears that are two-thirds erect, a deep chest, square outline, and a short tail forming a circle over its back. They are originally from Hungary, created by cross-breeding German and French herding dogs with the Hungarian Pulik. The coat can be white, grey, black, or fawn.
