Description
Description

Purpletop Vervain (Group) (Verbena bonariensis) refers to cultivated selections of this airy, upright perennial chosen for their consistent form, color, and long flowering period. These grouped varieties share the species’ distinctive tall, slender stems topped with clusters of tiny, lavender-purple blooms that appear to float above the foliage. The narrow, lance-shaped leaves grow sparsely along the stems, allowing the flowers to create a light, see-through effect in garden plantings.

Also called tall verbena or Argentinian vervain, it is native to South America, where it thrives in sunny grasslands and open spaces. Group forms may vary in bloom density, height, or shade of purple, but all retain the species’ graceful silhouette and extended seasonal display. Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, Purpletop Vervain group cultivars bring movement, texture, and a soft haze of color to borders, meadows, and naturalistic landscapes while blending seamlessly with a wide range of companion plants.
