The Sassafras Tree, Sassafras albidum, is a type of deciduous tree that has become distinguished by its aromatic properties as all parts of the tree are aromatic. The Sassafras Tree can be recognized by its slender branches covered with smooth orange-brown bark. It has 3 distinct leaf patterns – unlobed oval, bilobed, and trilobed.

The Sassafras Tree is native to eastern North America and eastern Asia preferring wet and well-drained soils. The Sassafras Tree thrives in moist sites and has an average lifespan of 100 years. The fruit of the Sassafras Tree is eaten by deer, bears, wild turkeys, and birds.
