Description
Description

Siebold’s Plantain Lily (Medium) (Hosta sieboldiana) is a perennial herbaceous plant valued for its graceful, tufted, and mounding growth that suits shaded borders and woodland gardens. This medium form produces large, heart-shaped leaves with deep veins and a bluish-green hue, though not as massive as the giant types, giving it a balanced presence without overwhelming nearby plantings.

The foliage creates dense, rounded clumps that serve as a textured backdrop throughout the growing season. In early to midsummer, tall stems rise above the leaves to display clusters of funnel-shaped flowers in soft lavender or white, adding a delicate touch to its bold foliage. Native to Japan, it naturally inhabits cool, moist woodland environments and has been cultivated widely for its ornamental qualities. Also known as medium hosta, this form is particularly useful in layered garden designs, where its rich foliage and elegant mound shape bring structure, harmony, and understated sophistication to herbaceous compositions.
