Description
Description

Spotted Joe-Pyeweed (Eupatorium maculatum) is a tall, stately perennial wildflower recognized for its dome-shaped clusters of tiny, fragrant pink to purplish blooms that crown sturdy, often purple-speckled stems. Also known simply as spotted Joe-Pye, it is native to North America and thrives in moist meadows, wetland edges, and stream banks, where its height and dense blooms create a dramatic presence. The lance-shaped leaves grow in whorls along the stems, providing lush foliage that complements its floral display.

Blooming in late summer to early fall, it serves as a valuable nectar source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators at a time when many plants are fading. The plant’s name honors a Native American herbalist, Joe Pye, reputed to have used it for medicinal purposes. Its combination of ecological importance, ornamental height, and late-season color makes Spotted Joe-Pyeweed a standout feature in naturalized plantings and pollinator-friendly landscapes.
