Description
Description

Stonecrop (Sedum kamtschaticum), also known as Kamchatka stonecrop or Russian stonecrop, is a hardy, mat-forming succulent prized for its resilience and ornamental charm. It features low, spreading clumps of thick, toothed green leaves that often display reddish margins, especially in cooler seasons. In summer, clusters of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers emerge, providing a vivid contrast against the foliage and attracting pollinators. Native to the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia and parts of northeastern Asia, it thrives in rocky, alpine, and temperate environments.

This species is commonly found in meadows, forest edges, and stony slopes. Stonecrop is celebrated for its ability to withstand drought, poor soils, and temperature extremes, making it a favored choice for rock gardens, green roofs, and low-maintenance landscapes. Its seasonal color changes and dense coverage also make it valuable for erosion control and decorative groundcover in both wild and cultivated settings.
