Stove | Range Clearances

Dimensioned side elevation drawing of the required and recommended clearances for a kitchen stove or range
Description
Description

Kitchen stove clearances are crucial for ensuring safety and efficient operation. Clearances refer to the space maintained around the stove, preventing potential hazards like fires or harmful fumes. By keeping flammable materials at a safe distance, clearances minimize risks. Additionally, sufficient space ensures that heat dissipates properly, which prolongs appliance lifespan. Moreover, adequate clearances promote effective ventilation, reducing the buildup of harmful gases. Observing these guidelines helps in achieving a safe, functional, and long-lasting kitchen environment.

Dimensions & Sizes

Concerned primarily with the space in front of the stove, a minimum ‘Work Zone’ of 40” (102 cm) should be provided to accommodate the human body and the various movements and motions associated with cooking. It is recommended that the minimum clearance distance between kitchen appliances be set between 48”-60” (122-152 cm) to permit comfortable circulation between multiple work surfaces and appliances in the kitchen at the same time. Above the cooktop surface, the ventilation hood should be placed a minimum of 24” (61 cm) from the stove and selected with a maximum depth of 18” (46 cm) to allow a person to cook without accidentally hitting their head on the hood.
