Tony Hawk is known for completing the first documented 900 skateboarding trick, his video game series, and is regarded as pioneer of modern skateboarding. He was nicknamed Birdman due to his last name. Tony Hawk was the World Champion of the National Skateboard Association for 12 successive years. In 2002, he founded the Tony Hawk Foundation to help build skate parks in underprivileged areas. Tony Hawk retired in 2003.
