Description
Description

White Gaura (Gaura lindheimeri) is a perennial flowering plant valued for its airy elegance and long-lasting bloom display. Its delicate white flowers, sometimes tinged with soft pink as they age, are borne on slender, wiry stems that sway gracefully in the wind. Each blossom has four petals, creating a butterfly-like shape that gives rise to its common nickname, “whirling butterflies.” The narrow, lance-shaped green leaves form a low base from which the flower stems rise, adding fine texture to plantings.

Native to prairies and open woodlands of Texas and Louisiana, Gaura lindheimeri thrives in sunny, well-drained environments and is highly drought-tolerant once established. Blooming from late spring into autumn, it provides continuous nectar for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. With its light, informal character and ability to blend seamlessly into mixed borders, meadows, and naturalistic gardens, White Gaura brings movement, texture, and a sense of effortless grace to perennial landscapes.
