Description
Description

Wood Spurge (Euphorbia amygdaloides) is a perennial herbaceous plant valued as a border filler for its evergreen foliage and unusual floral structures. It forms low, spreading clumps of glossy, dark green leaves, which may develop reddish or bronze tones in colder months, adding seasonal interest. In spring, upright stems bear clusters of chartreuse to yellow-green bracts that surround the true, tiny flowers—an eye-catching feature that gives the plant its distinctive appearance.

Native to woodlands and shady slopes across Europe, it thrives in dappled light and is well-suited to naturalistic garden designs. Also called almond spurge, it is resilient, adaptable, and appreciated for its ability to provide color and texture in shaded borders where other plants may struggle. Like many euphorbias, it exudes a milky sap that has toxic properties, making it both deer-resistant and unpalatable to pests. Wood Spurge combines practical toughness with understated elegance, enhancing garden edges with form and brightness.
