Description
Description

Yellow Iris (Iris pseudacorus) is a perennial flowering plant known for its bold, golden blooms and strong vertical presence. Each flower features three large, drooping petals marked with intricate brown or purple veining, complemented by three smaller upright petals, creating the distinctive iris form. The blossoms rise on tall, sturdy stems above clumps of sword-shaped green leaves, adding structure and movement to the landscape.

Native to Europe, North Africa, and western Asia, it naturally inhabits wetlands, marshes, and riverbanks, where its rhizomes help stabilize soil. Also called yellow flag iris, it is highly tolerant of wet conditions and can grow in shallow water. Blooming in late spring to early summer, it attracts bees and other pollinators while providing shelter for aquatic wildlife. Its striking color, architectural foliage, and adaptability to waterside plantings make Yellow Iris both a functional and ornamental choice in garden and ecological designs.
