Andrew Jackson served as the 7th president of the United States from 1829 until 1837 and was a lawyer and soldier. Before becoming President, Andrew Jackson, gained popularity as a general of the United States Army, served in both houses of Congress, and belonged to the Democratic party. Andrew Jackson did not receive a formal college education, but read law books as a teen. Andrew Jackson was elected into office through the popular vote and as President of the United States sought to become a direct representation of the country’s citizens. Andrew Jackson died on June 8, 1845 at the age of 78.
