Apple iPhone 3GS (3rd Gen) - 2009

Collection of drawings of the Apple iPhone 3GS (3rd Gen) display with measured dimensions and resolution

The Apple iPhone 3GS was introduced in June of 2009, one year following the release of its predecessor. The “S” stood for speed, ultimately highlighting improvements made in performance and more specifically, noting the 3GS as performing two times faster than the 3G. New features included: 3-megapixel camera with both video ability and a higher resolution, longer battery life, digital compass with automatic orientation, and hands free voice control. Twice the capacity was also offered with the 3GS for the same price as the 3G. The 8GB model of the iPhone 3GS was made available for $99, a price point that became an important milestone for the high end smartphone market.

The Apple iPhone 3GS (3rd Gen) has height of 4.55” (115.5 mm), width of 2.44” (62.1 mm), depth of .48” (12.3 mm), and weighs 4.8 oz (135 g). The screen size is 3.5” (89 mm) diagonal with a resolution of 480 x 320 px at 163 ppi.
