Bono, born Paul David Hewson, is best known for being the lead singer and lyric writer of the famous rock band U2. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Bono met his bandmates in college and formed U2 in 1976. A passionate frontman, Bono has won 22 Grammy’s as a member of the band and is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Along with being a successful musician, Bono is known for his philanthropy and activism and has been regarded as one of the most politically effective artists of all time. In November 2014, Bono suffered a bike accident and had to have surgery on his elbow, leaving him unable to continue to play guitar during shows.
