Description
Description

The California Two-Spot Octopus (Octopus bimaculoides) is easily identifiable by the circular blue spots on each side of its head. The two circular eyespots of the California Two-Spot Octopus trick predators and their prey to believe that those are their actual eyes. Also known as the Bimac Octopus, the skin of this octopus is not heavily textured and varies in color. It has developed crypsis that allows it to camouflage and change colors to match the environment. The California Two-Spot Octopus is native to Central California and northern Baja California. Its diet consists of limpet, black abalone, snails, clams, hermit crabs, and small fishes.
