Description
Description

The Garden Snail (Cornu aspersum) is a land snail species and a terrestrial pulmonte gastropod mollusk. In some areas the snail is relished as a food item, but it is widely regarded as a pest in gardens and agriculture. An adult Garden Snail has a thin calcareous shell with four or five whorls that is variable in color. There is usually a reticulated pattern of dark brown, brown-gold, or chestnut with yellow stripes. The body is soft and slimy, and it is able to be retracted into the shell entirely. When injured or irritated, the Gardner Snail will produce a defensive froth of mucus that will repel or overwhelm its enemies.
