Description

Jack Johnson was probably the first world heavyweight boxing champion of African American origin. As a boxing legend, John Arthur Johnson was nicknamed the “Galveston Giant” and won seventy matches in his boxing career. At one time, he fought boxing abroad to avoid serving prison sentences. His boxing style was defensive, leaving the opponent to tire first and then becoming offensive as the fight continues. He also preferred not to win on knockout but punishing opponents with strikes and blows through the rounds. He is also among legendary boxers admitted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the disbanded Boxing Hall of Fame of The Ring magazine.
