Description

Jesse Jackson is a known American civil rights activist, Baptist minister, and former politician. As an undergraduate student, Jesse Jackson became involved in the civil rights movement and marched along with Martin Luther King Jr in 1965. He also worked under the supervision of Martin Luther King Jr. In 1980s he became a spokesperson for African Americans and was a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984 and 1988. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2000. Jesse Jackson founded Operation People United to Save Humanity and the National Rainbow Coalition who later merged into the Rainbow/Push Coalition.
