Description
Description

Camouflage is one of the best tricks used by the Angelshark (Squatina squatina) to surprise its prey. The body is broad, stout, and almost flat below, making it easily buried in sediments, while the grayish to brownish dorsal coloration makes it easily concealed in its habitat. It is highly distinctive thanks to its flattened body form, making it resemble a ray. It also possesses conical barbels, and adults have thornless bark. Besides, there are many small light and dark markings on the body. The Angelshark is nocturnal, viviparous, and has a slow reproduction rate. Look for it in the northeast Atlantic and the Mediterranean sea, where it feeds on invertebrates and other benthic dwellers.
