Description

The Sooty Shearwater (Ardenna grisea) is a medium seabird with a dark coloring that gave it its name. Sooty shearwaters have plumage ranging from dark brown to black and are smaller than most gulls. These birds are typically loud and can croak. Sooty shearwaters are native to the islands like Falkland Islands, of the south Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Sooty shearwaters are long-distance migrants and are highly sociable as they are often seen in large gatherings in water and in flight. Sooty shearwaters typically eat fish, crustaceans, squid, and jellyfish. They are listed as near threatened to extinction.
