Description

The Tufted Puffin (Fratercula cirrhata) also known as the crested puffin, is the largest of all puffin species. Tufted puffins are mostly black with white facial patches and have a thick red bill with yellow and green markings. Their most distinctive features are the yellow tufts that appear on both males and females. Tufted puffins generally feed on fish and marine invertebrates. Their diet is made up of sand lance, capelin, small squid, crustaceans, mollusks, and sea urchins. Tufted puffins feed by diving and swimming underwater. They are not considered in danger of extinction and are listed as least concern.
