Billiards Racks

Billiards racks are pieces of sporting equipment used to place the billiard balls (to ‘rack’ the balls) into their starting locations for a game of pocket billiards. The two most popular variations of billiards racks are the triangle (Eight-ball) and the diamond (Nine-ball). Triangle racks have inner dimensions of 11.25” | 28.58 cm by 10“ | 25.51 cm and diamond racks are 6.75” | 17.15 cm by 10“ | 25.51 cm. Billiard racks are made out of a variety of material choices that commonly include wood, plastic or metal.

In eight-ball billiards, 15 balls are placed in the triangular rack with the eight ball in the center, the one ball at the apex, and a solid and stripe as the other two corners. In nine-ball billiards, balls one through nine are placed in numerical order (left to right) in the diamond shaped rack started from the apex.

The Five-Pin Pin Deck in Five-Pin Bowling is the spacing between the 5 pins that create its ‘V’ formation and layout. Every pin has a heavy rubber band around its middle section that causes them to move further when struck by the Five-Pin Bowling Ball. Each of the 5 pins is worth a different scoring point value.

The headpin at the center is worth 5 points, the pins at both sides are worth 3 points each, and the pins at the ends are worth 2 points each. Together the five pins have a worth of 15 points in each frame.

The Cricket Wicket refers to the three stumps composed of wood, secured into the ground and spaced such that a cricket ball would not pass through them. The stumps form the wicket with their top having two pieces of wood called bails. In a cricket game, two wickets opposite each other are planted at the center of the ground. The bowler attacks the stumps while a batsman defends. These three vertical posts hold the bails and are divided into off stump, middle stump, and leg stump. Stumping or being stumped or taking a wicket means to dismiss a batsman. Stumps can also be a term used to end the day's play.

Swimming Starting Blocks

Swimming Starting Blocks are visible in most Olympic pools and competitive pools where each individual starts their swim or relay with a dive from these blocks. Backstrokes races, however, don’t need an individual to use the starting blocks. The swimming starting blocks have grips, handles, and slots, with the handle being parallel to the end wall surface. The swimming starting blocks are available in different styles and varieties. The high variety type is fitted on the floor with projecting steps for an athlete to climb to the starting block and the low variety type fixed on the head wall.
